ABOUT CHRISTINE DAVIS POTTERY

HANDCRAFTED ARTISTRY IN POTTERY
BASED IN FISHERS, INDIANA

Welcome to Christine Davis Pottery, where art comes to life through the hands of a skilled potter. My pottery is all wheel thrown and Raku fired. All pieces are my original designs and are made by exclusively by me. Each piece tells a unique story, making it a perfect addition to your home or a thoughtful gift for someone special.

ABOUT ME

I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. While my college years were spent studying various art forms, I learned the Raku process at the Indianapolis Art Center and now work exclusively in Raku. Since then, I have been participating in regional art fairs for a number of years. I am also a founding member of Art In Hand, a cooperative art gallery in Zionsville, Indiana established in 2000.

WHAT IS RAKU?

Raku is a firing process which produces one of a kind pottery pieces. Pots are taken out of the kiln at 1900 degrees while glowing orange. Then, they are placed into metal containers filled with various combustibles which burst into flame at the touch of the pot. The resulting reduction atmosphere produces many colors from copper to blue, green, and gold. Blacks result when unglazed clay absorbs smoke.

I love the Raku process. It is undependable, unpredictable, fickle, changeable, and capable of producing magnificent pottery. The designs can be interchanged, but the color is ultimately at the whim of the Raku god.

EXHIBITIONS

My work can be found at Art In Hand (Zionsville, IN), Spears Gallery (Nashville, IN), and Indiana Artist Gallery (Carmel, IN). I also sell my work at various juried art fairs around the Midwest.

AWARDS

I am honored to have received recognition for my exceptional Raku pottery designs. My awards celebrate the dedication and artistry infused into every piece, solidifying my commitment to excellence and innovation in the realm of Raku pottery.
